Self Isolation Advice

Self Isolation Advice

If there's a chance you could have coronavirus, you may be asked to stay away from other people (self-isolate).

Self-isolation means you should:

- stay at home
- not go to work, school or public places
- not use public transport or taxis - ask friends, family members or delivery services to do errands for you
- avoid visitors to your home - it's OK for friends, family or delivery drivers to drop off items but these should be left outside and you should avoid making physical contact

If you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus illness (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started. If your symptoms do not improve after 7 days then contact NHS 111.

If you live with others and you have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days.

The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.

If any other members of the household develop symptoms within that 14 day period then they must self-isolate for 7 days from the point they displayed symptoms. This may mean they need to self-isolate for longer than 14 days.

For example if they develop symptoms on day 13 they will need to self-isolate for a total of 20 days.

The person who first displayed symptoms in the household can stop self-isolating after 7 days.
